Grower profile – Yarra Range Produce

Tom, Josie and son David Palmucci have been growing strawberries as part of the family business that has been running since 1948. Tom and his family have been at the helm since 1991 and have been producing fresh strawberries and homemade jams under the Yarra Range Produce name ever since.

 

Here’s what Tom had to say about his passion for growing Victorian Strawberries:

 

What’s the best thing about being a strawberry
grower?

The lifestyle, I love working outdoors, being my own boss and as the work is seasonal, we get enjoy some down time when it’s less busy.

 

What piece of advice would you give your 20 year old self?

Never stop learning, that’s the key. It’s also essential to ensure a good education in growing plants, before you actually start growing strawberries commercially.

 

What makes Victorian strawberries the best?

The varieties we grow, they are some of the best strawberries in the world. And of course, our unique climate and soils help too.

 

What’s the best way to eat strawberries?

Fresh off the plant, there is no better way to have them.
